Presenter: Female presenter Elaine Page is somewhat formal and cheerful, she talks directly to the audience, for example saying hello etc. When introducing different songs she uses puns that the audience might find amusing (‘Lets move on to something more GLEEful’ – Plays Don’t Rain on My Parade – Glee)
Layout: The show starts after the 1 o’clock news, after the newscaster finishes an ident introduces the show ’88:91FM Elaine Page’ this ident then goes into the first song, a cheerful musical number. Elaine Page does not use any sound beds so she is heard correctly and keeps the show formal. Like the radio 1 show EPs show also advertises other Radio 2 programming half way through the show, this is to get the EP audience interested in other radio 2 shows.
Feature: Break A Leg: Elaine Page plays clips from the public who thank her about mentioning their musicals. She talks about different performances of musicals i.e. the circus style performance of Wizard of Oz. Also she plays songs from the musicals helping raise awareness of the performance.
Song choice: All of the songs are easy listening soundtracks to films and musicals, many songs are from not so well known musicals. Elaine Page is also knows for playing songs from the popular American television series Glee. EP plays a wide variety of musical numbers, some very cheerful, some not so cheerful, some are acapella and others are just the music (like the well known soundtrack for E.T.) this is so that every different type and style of musical is covered so that all of the audience will enjoy some of the music even if they dislike conventional musical numbers.
Guests: Elaine page sometimes interviews musical theatre actors, for example a few weeks ago she interviewed Jim Dale, a comedian, actor, song writer, voice over artist and popular musical theatre performer. In the interview she discuses different jobs the actor has had and plays clips of the artists work.
